I have a Horizon environment where several of the user writable volumes are large (by our definition at least, 40~ GB). I am starting to look at using exclusions in the Snapvol.cfg file to eliminate temp files, etc from being retained in the writables.
I'm trying to determine what content is consuming the largest amount of space, that can be excluded with affecting the user. I have read that writables can be manually mounted to a workstation that does not have the App volumes agent and then the content of the volume can be viewed. However I have not been able to do so. Whenever I try to attach a writable vmdk to a vm that doesn't have the agent installed (by using editing settings of the vm) the add disk operation fails with the following message
Failed to add disk scsi0:4. Disk '/vmfs/volumes/vsan:52e71a60622c0fcb-ea55ea0c0b1108b9/18a1315f-7c1b-8ef9-7392-e4434b18acb0/writables/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx20!W10x64.vmdk' cannot be opened for writing. It might be shared with some other VM. Cannot open the disk for writing Cannot open the disk '/vmfs/volumes/vsan:52e71a60622c0fcb-ea55ea0c0b1108b9/18a1315f-7c1b-8ef9-7392-e4434b18acb0/writables/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx20!W10x64.vmdk' or one of the snapshot disks it depends on.
My question is how does one manually attach or mount a volume? Or how does one see the content of the volume?
