Skype for business 2016

Jump to solution

I am trying to install Skype for business 2016 on an Appstack (this is for a proof of concept and eventually it will be added to the gold image). I have used the offline installer and a config.xml file that i created. This is installed on a couple of thick client PC's and works without issue. Once the appstack is provisioned, if i log in it runs without issue, but is another user logs in it asks about searching for updates and then crashes (happens whether you choose to search for updates or not). I have exported the HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\16\Lync reg keys and if i run this when logged in as another user Skype starts, trys to login with my account, fails and then the user can sign in without issue. I have removed all the regkeys with my name / email in them from the reg file and then rerun, but skype then crashes. On thick client this doesn't happen, if a new user logs in they can log into skype without issue.

Has anyone sucsesfully installed Skype 2016 on an Appvolume and if so what steps did you take? I am guessing that something is being missed by the capture process, so the reg keys are not being created when a new user logs in.

Our Set up is -

Windows 7 64bit with Office 2010 32 bit installed in the gold image

AppVolumes 2.10

UEM 8.7.0.74

Skype for Business 2016 32bit (not 365)

Thanks,

Alex

Did a bit more digging on this issue and setting a reg key HKCU\Software\Microsoft\office\16.0\Common\general\shownfirstrunoptin as DWORD with a value of 1 resolves the issue of Skype crashing on first run.

Exported below key and used UEM profile to inject.

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\common\general]

"shownfirstrunoptin"=dword:00000001
