Black screen showing between 'preparing desktop' and the Desktop appearing

Hi peoples,

We've just upgraded from 2.9.1 to 2.13.2 (Horizon 7.0 to 7.3.2) and are seeing a different behavior when processing complex appstacks.

If svservice is still processing appstacks after group policies and the verbose "preparing desktop" screen, we see a black screen with an active white mouse pointer for 10 to 60 seconds.

At the end of the black screen period we see the vRops/helpdesk vmware login manager pop up quickly, then the desktop loads.

Appstacks with fonts/printer drivers are slow to process (Adobe Acrobat Pro adds 50 seconds to processing time)

Has anyone else seen this, or know of adjustments that could help?

Thanks

Josh

Issue can happen if their is antivirus installed on the desktop. Please check if any and check if you can recreate the issue after removing malware app.

We saw the exact same thing but for as far as I know it is more of an issue with Horizon upgrading.

When logging in the Horizon view now starts the logon manager during (duh) logon. First it used to be a fling but from version 7.2 and upwards it is default during logon.

Appvolumes 2.9 to 2.13 is quite a step and to much has changed to just add all those changes here.

Biggest change (at least in my book) is the way it handles the reverse_replicate.

Previous, when you had large appstacks it would process those during logon. You could force logon to proceed but could end up with applications not working as it did not to the reverse _replicate (which is as much as merging all registry keys and inserting it into the local machine).

Now appvolumes logs in, shows you the desktop and after a while (default is 60 seconds after merging is done) starts to do this reverse_replicate. This way the desktop shows up way quicker..
