App Volume 4.x Max Config

Does anyone know where VMware keeps official document for App Volume 4.x, specifically the max config?

I am looking every where to see what the max package (app stack) per User/VM in this release.

Thanks

The hard limit of VMDK disks is based on the limitation of vSphere SCSI controllers which is 60 disks. This number is derived from 4 wide bus controllers with 15 available SCSI IDs for hard drives.  If you reserve one disk for an operating system, that technically leaves 59 disks available for app packages and a writable volume.

Historically for 2.x we tested 5 AppStacks and 1 Writable Volume per login and similarly for App Volumes 4 we test App Volumes at 25 applications and 1 Writable Volume per login, which is probably the guidance our support specialist has quoted you.

Hope this helps.

I had to do it the hard way and open a case support.

in version 4.x, the max is 25.

Strange that they actually deliver a figure for that. My guess is that this is a best practice. In theory you could add (I believe) about 62 appstack to a machine. Not quite sure about limitations of the SCSI adapters but I believe you can add 4 to a VM. Adding those 4 would mean 4 * 16 = 64. 2 are needed for base disks, others would be possible to add appstack.

I would never suggest going for that amount of Appstacks but it would be cool to find out how far you can go with it Smiley Happy Smiley Happy
