App Volume 3 issue with AppStacks and File Share

Hi all,

I am new to the community but after hours of googling I couldn't find the answer to my question. I installed App Volume 3 Enterprise recently and I was able to configure it (AD, Vcenter, Connect to file share etc.). I just want to mention I don't use vrOps. After installing and configuring App Volume, I captured my first app which as a test was VLC. My understanding is that on the staging machine you need to install The App Volume agent and Appcapture which I did successfully. I ran the command "AppCapture.exe /n VLC" and started the VLC installed. Everything went well, I got the VMDK, VHD and JSON created and using "AppCapture.exe /list "Path to the AppStack"" it listed VLC and all the details were good. After that I transfered all 3 files into the Samba Share that is also connected on my App Volume server. I did a "Sync now" and when I go into "Inventory > Applications" there are no apps listed. I have tried only leaving the VDMK in there and re-adding the file share. Using the SMB name and/or IP of the share and nothing seems to work. App Volume can't see or detect my captured apps. I left the permissions to my Samba share to Full Permissions to Everyone to make sure permissions were not the issue.

I can't find an answer to my question anywhere.....Why does App Volume not see my App Stacks??

Thanks

Please don't use version 3.0 it is a technical preview, that's why you cant find anything about it on the forums.

Just make sure to download version 2.13 and start using that. If you have an issue with it just post here and we will try and help.

Hey Ray! Thank you for the information. We purchased a license for App Volume 3....is it going to work with version 2?

I guess so. You normally buy a license for Appvolumes, not specifically for Appvolumes 3 or 2.x.

Otherwise I would suggest asking your vendor (if not VMWare itself) for the correct licenses.
