Serial Port On A VM

I have a windows server 2019 virtual machine running on an ESXI host in a data center. I have set up a serial port with a pipe as a server with the endpoint a process. The pipe is \\.\pipe\com2 I try to list all pipes in powershell, or connect to the pipe with a dot net application but the pipe does not seem to exist. Is this pipe located on the VM or the ESXI server?
