Hoping someone here can assist. Here is the issue with my VMWare Workstation 15/16 (AND Player and Fusion) systems:

Using VMWare Workstation 15/16, I create an OVA from a local VM on my system. The VM has a sound card installed and working.

The OVA is created successfully.

When I import that OVA and create a VM from it within VMWare Workstation/Player/Fusion, all the other devices (display, networking, etc.) are there but no sound card.

When I use that same OVA in VirtualBox, the sound card appears/is created as expected.

The VM uses open-vm-tools and is a Xubuntu 20.04 system.

Why not simply add the sound card?

Absolutely can. But the original issue was that I was giving an OVA to others and wanted the sound card to be auto-added to the VM once they created it instead of having to walk them through the configuration steps, adding the sound card after.

For me, this is not an issue anymore because I'm not working on this task anymore.

Realize that if you are moving/copying a VM from one VMware host to another (even with a different product), there is no reason to use OVF export/import. Just copy the entire VM's folder to the other computer and power it on.

Appreciate the point. I have done this MANY times but making an OVA (as a single file) was an important step in the distribution of the VM. This was a requirement. And yes, I know I can ZIP/7Z/RAR a VM and distribute it this way too....but again, exporting an existing VM to OVA and then giving it to others so they can import it was the process I had to follow.
