Cannot install VMWare Tools on Windows 7

I have installed Wmware Workstation Pro 16.1 on Windows 11 22H2

I have created a VM with Windows 7 and I am attempting to install Vmware Tools to improve performance.

I tried the default option from the context menu as well as installing manually via Wmware tools ISO and via the EXE installer - all to no avail. When the installer is started, Windows 7 errors with "vmware installation launcher has stopped working"

I installed the updates mentioned here: https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VMware-Fusion-Discussions/VMWare-Tools-fails-to-install-Windows-7/m-p/2313676/highlight/true#M140867, as well as I also installed all available Windows 7 updates.

I already wasted 2 days to fight with this. Any suggestions how to resolve?

Check the latest compatible version of VMware tools for Windows 7.

I assume you are trying to install standard VMware tools for vSphere8.

Hi,

"Windows cannot find the file"... sounds like the .iso you are trying to install from is corrupt.

Try downloading a new version of the iso files.

I am trying to install Vmware Tools on Vmware Workstation Pro.

I tried with version Vmware Tools 12.1.5 which is shows as compatible with Vmware Workstation Pro 16.1

As I mentioned, I tried from multiple sources - CD that Workstation maps, ISO downloaded from vmware website and installer downloaded from there.

Another cause for that particular windows error is if the installer is on a mapped drive and you're trying to run it as an administrator (which the installer will also do for you as it needs to be installed as admin).

The reason in that case is that the elevated user doesn't have the drives mapped that the normal user has.
