Figured out on my own. I have to change VMX file manually, then put numvcpus and CpusPerSocket to same value (for example, 8). Kinds strange why UI works in this way...

Hi everyone,

Currently, I'm using VMWare Workstation 16 Player. I'm using Intel 12600K CPU and I'm trying to increase VM's core count to 8. But even if I try to change "Number of processor cores" option from GUI, it's not applied as intended.

I've looked up logs and found following

=> Set Number of processor cores to 8
=> Power up
=> Logical core count of Guest becomes 2 ( vwware.log says cpuid.coresPerSocket = "2" )

If I set Number of processor cores to 6 then cpuid.coresPerSocket becomes "3". I tried to change VMX file manually, but it doesn't work as well.

So, somehow something changes core count to by force. I'd be glad if someone knows how to resolve this.

System
Host : 12600K + Windows 11 Pro
VMWare 16.2.3 build-19376536
Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit (Build 22000.856) 10.0.22000

Guest : Windows 10 Home
