Part of VMware Tools runs as a Service and that is probably what's not starting, so have you looked in the Event Viewer in Windows for any clues as to why the Service is not starting/failing?

Event Viewer can be found under Administrative Tools in Control Panel or use the following command:

%windiw%\system32\eventvwr.msc /s

I have a Win7 guest under Fusion 4.x and I can't seem to start VMWare tools. I have installed/reinstalled several times, rebooted the guest, and the tools won't start. I've tried double-clicking on the VM grey icon in the quick start part of the taskbar and I have also right-clicked and selected "Open VMWare tools", all to no avail. I get a brief spinning cursor followed by nothing.

Any thoughts about how I should proceed?
