Does VeloCloud support an HA pair to be connected through a L2 switch or the pair must be physically connected to each other to support HA?

If I have a VeloCloud HA Pair, will the HA work if I connect them through a L2 switch? (see snapshot)

Having a L2 switch between the HA pair is fine as long as there is no latency induced. We have strict latency requirements in HA. We exchange heartbeats every 100ms and we failover if we miss 7 heartbeats. Any latency that might get induced due to a L2 switch in between might incorrectly induce a failover.
