OK. But why wasn't the Collector able to access the Internet, if no proxy server is required? Do you have an IDS or desktop firewall in place that's shutting down some Internet activities?

I'm new to VCM and just did a clean installation of VCM 5.7.1.372. It's my understanding that information about Windows bulletins automatically downloads to VCM. When I go to Patching > Windows > Bulletins there is nothing there for By Bulletin or By Affected Product. The collector machine does not require a proxy server to connect to the internet and can connect fine to external web sites. Additionally, I saw an article about sqlcmd not being in the path on the collector machine, but that is not the issue as it is and was prior to the installation of VCM. Any idea of how to get bulletins to download?

By default VCM checks for Windows patch updates every 8 hours, and its timer is based on service startup. So, the first automatic check won't be until 8 hours after installation.

On the Bulletins/By Bulletin node, there is a Check for Updates button you can use to manually check and initiate the download and parse. Have you tried that?

I've had the machine up for about a week so that wasn't the issue. It turns out that the first time it went to check there was an issue. The work around from VMware support was to go to the vmware website and download the PatchingCoreVCM57.zip and extract it to the application installation directory > sum > collector directory. The two scripts are supposed to be run out of the zip 1) SUMUpdatesNEW and 2) sum2_postzml. After than I went to Administration > Settings > General Settings > Patching > Windows > Bulletin and Update and changed the Languauge support from English to English which forced the checks to run again. Then evertying was happy.

There was never any problem accessing the Internet as far as I'm concerned. The root cause of the issue I didn't discuss with VMware. Thanks for your input though. I always appreciate a quick reply to a posting.
