topic automatic install/upgrade of vmtools for linux in Virtual Machine, Guest OS and VM Tools Discussions

just curious about whether vSphere in nowadays supports automatic installation(upgrade) of vmtools for linux distribution or not???

I only know that vCenter webUI provides such function for Windows OS, but for linux we will have to follow the instructions/posts discovered from googling.

I also found that after importing all the latest linux-related vmtools files(such as ISO and isoimages_manifest.txt) to ESXi 7 host's /productlocker , vCenter 7 still don't prompt to update the current linux VM's vmtools.

Hi nblr06,

That is a great question. Seems like manually upgrade will still be required for Linux distros.

Otherwise, someone from VMWare can enlighten us if there is a way to do automatic upgrade for VMware tools.

I've been upgrading it manually since.

Regards
