Hi!

I've a big problem with my IBM x3400 with ESX 3.0.1 that is about 3 years old.

I've found the server powered off this morning. After restarting no error in log file or in startup procedure.

But, when I try to launch a virtual machine via VMWare Virtual Infrastructure Client, after few seconds the server shutdown. It is simply like as you plug the power cable off.

At the moment no problem in log, no relevant error. Nothing.

Any idea?

Kind regards.

I would check for the log in the BIOS settings of the x3400, did you check if you have the latest update from IBM? I know is a standard but sometimes do a firmware update fix weird errors.

Seems that the problem is not related to vmware but when you try to do operation that "call" more memory or more CPU, I would check for RAM and if there are any errors/warning.

Alex

At the moment both bios and controller firmware are up to date.

I noticed that the ethernet doesn't ping other machine unless it seems up and running.

Any hints on how to check?

esxcfg-nics -l show one vmnic1 card.

ifconfig show lo, vswif0. Don't know why at this time ethernet doesn't function properly.
