I recently set up Hypervisor 6.5 on an external hard drive and downloaded the most recent vsphere client. I am getting this message whenever I try connecting to the address I had set up in the options menu.

I know next to nothing about virtualization and this is my first attempt at using vmware as I am trying to set up my own lab so that I can learn to use vmware and maybe install an evaluation copy of windows server 2012 to learn how to use Active Directory.

I have made sure that I am using the correct host name and ip address when trying to log in from the client and made sure the ESX host had network connectivity so I am not sure what else I can do. Please help

Did you create "Forward and Reverse Lookup DNS records" before installing the Hypervisor 6.5?

Did you run "Test Management Network" from the esxi to ping & resolve Hostaname?

Did you configure the firewall, for testing just try to disable it...

I did run test management network prior to booting back in to Windows and it pinged everything normally

I tried logging in again after disabling the default Windows 7 firewall and I continue to get the same error

I did no make a DNS record prior to installing the hypervisor and I don't know what that is

I have tried logging in via the IP address that I had configured within ESXI but I only get "site cannot be reached" message. Am I not supposed to suppose to have the ip address, DNS, subnet mask and gateway address be identical to the one used by my desktop? They currently are but I have also tried different IP addresses, all with the same results
