Hi, you need to remove the old host so that the license is to be freed up. there after only you can add the new host. this is assume that the new host is having the same number of CPU.

I have an ESX 4.1 host that crashed. I pulled out the server and replaced it with an identical make/model. I swapped the local drives as well so ESX booted up as if there was never any issue. I removed the host from vSphere before swapping the host. Now when I try to re-add the host to vSphere, it warns me that the host is already managed by another vSphere server.... which is the same one I am trying to add it back to! I say Continue, but I am out of licenses and cannot add it back.

How can I get this machine back into vSphere?
