We have just completed the migrations of our Dev VMware Infrastructure to vSphere.

Although it was labeled Dev, about 8% of the 200 VMs were actually production machines. We started with 2 Dell M910 Blades running ESXi 4.0U1. Each blade has 32 Cores x 1.861 GHz(Xeon L7555), 256GB Ram, and 8 GB NICs. We then built out vSphere on Virtual machines hosted from the new Blades. We then started migrating our existing ESXi 3.5 hosts and VMs to vSphere, and then started the process of migrating the VMs to ESXi 4.0, and upgrading VMware Tools and Virtual Hardware to version 7. As we freed up the ESXi 3.5 hosts we also upgraded them to ESXi 4.0. All the migrations went as planned.
