Using VMware Infrastructure Update without VC possible?

Hi,

I just installed ESX 3.5 as single Host and VI Client (which installs VMware Infrastructure Update as a seperate menu item). Can this application be used without using VC?

Trying to do so, results in an error message: "The VMware Infrastructure Update service could not manage one or more of the selected hosts. Check that this service is supported on those hosts and that the hosts have network connectivity."

Did I forgot to activate something? Or is it simply not possible to use VMware Infrastructure Update without VC? If so, is there anyother easy way to update this ESX server than using esxupdate?

TIA

Roland

VMware Infrastructure Update is to manage patching for ESXi hosts, and can not be used for ESX 3.5 hosts. Without VC, you will have to patch the old manual way by downloading and using esxupdate.

While this article is geared for 3i it should still be relevant. HTH
