We are looking into using a VM to run a Keyless entry system but there is a USB hardware Key requirement (Pic: http://www.safenet-inc.com/support/tech/sentinelhardwarekeyspics.htm)
Is there a way to make something like this work? Is there a way to mount a USB device maybe like the USB Over the Network?
Running ESX 2.5.4 with VC 2.0.1.
Directly onnected USB devices are not supported for guest OS'es... Only in the COS...
There are a bunch of USB/IP drivers out there.... you can try this one...

hi
Go back to the vendor and say they have to come up with another method for licensing their product or u will not use it, works every time and they normally have a solution by the end of the day
This one is mentioned alot here:
http://www.digi.com/products/usb/anywhereusb.jsp
We have numerous USB licensing mechanisms here and most of them don't support Vmware for one ridiculous reason or another. Their software components knows its a Vmware MAC address so a work-around is to use your own MAC address from a dead NIC, use a $1 NIC or I think there is an internet address that lists dead NIC addresses.
However, this might violate your support and/or licensing contract. We simply told them that we are switching to vendors who are supporting vmware. The more the better.
We have anywhere USB running HASP usb dongles for access to a Win2k terminal server that software build run on. Works great.
DLevine answered the question. I clicked on helpful before I realized I was on the wrong reply.
My org ended up going with a Hardware solution do to time restraints. maybe they will readdress it later. Thanks to all
Using virtual USB is potentially dangerous for the dongle in case vendor uses read/write operations with dongle memory. Software even can spoil the dongle if started from two sessions
simultaneously.
In the end we have virtualized our dongle using sentinel dongle emulator.
You know...I hate sites that dont post their prices. How much??
Hello,
i have read, that you virtualized your dongle with "sentinel dongle emulater".
i look at the side (www.dongleservice.com). is this a legal!?
how many pay you for this?
Thank you
