XP Won't install updates

XP seems to run fine on VMFusion and will download the XP updates just fine, but the installation of these updates (all of them) fails.

What can I do to correct this?

Regards,

Bill

Windows bug, see for a fix.

Since you have Internet connectivity and can download the updates but not install them then this is not a Fusion issue per-se, so have a look at for a possible fix or search Microsoft Knowledge Base or Google.

You might try Dial-a-fix:

I don't think I've run into any Windows problems that were due to Windows running in a VM. They were just Windows problems.

One exception could be the Vista trial that I downloaded from Microsoft. It was a MS Virtual PC 2007 VM that I converted to a VMWare VM using the Windows based Converter (running in a Fusion VM of XP). It worked fine, but the VMWare mouse driver wouldn't work. I think there was an incompatibility between the VPC mouse driver and the VMWare mouse driver. Not entirely a Fusion problem, though.

My vote is fix Windows, don't blame Fusion.

It's not Fusion fault at all. You must uninstall Microsoft Virtual Machine Additions while running the Virtual Machine under VPC before importing/converting to a VMware Virtual Machine.

Yeah, that makes sense.

Ended up not being an issue when I discovered that MS offers trial downloads of Office 2007. So I just installed the trial with a Vista Business VM that I installed from scratch.

Once again, Fusion is in the clear! : )
