New To VMWare-Need Help

Hi Folks!

I am new to Vmware and need your help in what I am trying to do.I have a desktop pc running on windows xp which is connected to the internet(PPPoE).I am planning to create 2 virtual machines/Guest OS(s)(RedHatLinux4 and Solaris9) in this host pc.

I would want the 2 VMs ( linux, solaris) to talk to each other and at the same time these both VMs sould be able to talk to the host WinXP machine and access internet through this host machine.

And,one more query, can these 2 VMs be placed in a team and yet I can achieve the above mentioned setup?

Would appreicate anyone and everyone's help in this. Thanks in Advance for your contribution and valuable time.

The easiest way to do this is to use NAT networking.

NAT has the advantage to work regardless of the hosts internet connection.

And,one more query, can these 2 VMs be placed in a team and yet I can achieve the above mentioned setup?

yes

So how do I exactly go about this NAT configuration.I first setup the 2 VMs and then select NAT choice for both of them? Please guide Me through this. Thanks for your patience.

When configuring the hardware for your VMs you are asked about the network configuration - select NAT

After that your VMs will get an IP address, gateway and DNS server at boot assigned.

You immediatlly should be able to access the internet.

The used network range for NAT is unique. To check it open the "Manage Virtual Networks" in the VMware program group.

In the NAT tab the used address range is displayed.

If you prefer static IPs assign an IP in this range and use the gateway address that is displayed in the tab.

The DNS server (and your host) address is the first IP address in this range.

Example

the NAT tab displays:

Gateway IP address: 192.168.112.2

Netmask: 255.255.255.0

then your host should display something like this when you run ipconfig /all:

Ethernetadapter VMware Network Adapter VMnet8:

IP-Adress. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.112.1

Netmask. . . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

Default Gateway. . . . . . . . . :
