Multiple idle sessions in VirtualCenter

We have noticed that when enabling the Update Manager plugin logging in to VirtualCenter generates multiple sessions. One of these sessions is the active one, the other session(s) will become idle. Problem is these idle sessions are not closed when logging off from VirtualCenter and remain behind.

We think this is related to VMware Update Manager when installed on a different server then VirtualCenter. Does anyone has seen the same behaviour, and knows the cause and/or resolution?

If you disable the update manager plugin in your client and then close and open the vi client, does it produce the same double session you described?

When disabling the plugin and starting the VI Client again I get only one session each time.

When enabling the plugin I get 2 or 3 sessions when starting the VI Client.

That's interesting. I've never seen this type of behavior. What is your session timeout value, and have you tried to adjust that as well?

The only timeouts I can find seem to be related to tasks, where can you set the session timeout?

By the way, restarting the VMware Update Manager service removes all extra idle sessions. I've also seen the same behaviour when running Update Manger on the VirtualCenter server itself. Our setup is using version 2.5 Update 1 with seperate databases for VirtualCenter and Update Manager.

I stand corrected. I have confirmed in my lab environment that I see what you are seeing. At least one ACTIVE session besides my direct VI client connection, and I run update manager and vc and my database on the same vm. This is either default behavior, or a bug.

If you want to know for sure, I'd open an SR.

Does anyone know if this has been resolved? I am having the same issue with 3.5u3 and Virtual Center 2.5 with upgrade manager 1.0.0.63985
