Task failed: P2VError UNKNOWN_METHOD_FAULT(sysimage.fault.PlatformError)

I was wondering if anyone can help me, i seem to be having an issue converting / migrating Vmware Server 1x files over to ESX 3.5 Update 1. Whenever i use Vmware convertor i get errors Task failed: P2VError UNKNOWN_METHOD_FAULT(sysimage.fault.PlatformError). I have tried using the boot cd, standalone convertor, convertor in virtual center. The VM has been tried on and off, and also a local admin account.

I am using VMware Convertor 3.0.3 (which i think was released yesterday)?

I really want to avoid using acronis, symantec or any other 3rd party supported imager unless its last resort

I suspect you did a remote clone? If so, you will need to manually grab the vmware-converter-#.log files as the ones from this .zip (file->export) will not have these files.

vmware-converter.log files are available in the Source Physical Machine OS’s temp directory (C:\Windows\Temp\vmware-temp). Please attach these files as a .zip or just the 1 file for that exact task (check the date/timestamp).

Have you tried installing convertor on the VM itself and then in the wizard select this machine?

Yes, I have tried it on Vms, standalone machines with nothing else running. The standalone boot disk, it nearly always fails at 54% i have even tried imaging it to acronis then restoring the acronis to esx3.5 and it still fails. The actual VM i am trying to move to esx3.5 its running on vmware server 1x, do you think a upgrade to 2x beta would solve it?

Impersonating user a13xchan

NfcNetTcpWrite: bWritten: -1

NfcFssrvrSend: failed

NfcFssrvr_Close: failed to send close message

NfcNetTcpWrite: bWritten: -1

NfcNet_Send: requested 264, sent only 4294967295 bytes

NfcSendMessage: send failed:

Cloning failed!

Image processing task has failed with PlatformError fault: 290

You can try it again using the built-in local administrator (not user a13xchan) to see if that helps.

You will need to verify duplex settings on this machine and on ESX as well as any network devices inbetween.

Be sure you are not going over a WAN link.

As a workaround, you can try converting to a standalone image (a VM for workstation version 5.x) and then winSCP/veeam those files over to ESX and convert them using vmkfstools (http://kb.vmware.com/kb/900)

I have tried a local account also, and with the machine turned off this step is bypassed?

I tried converting it to Acronis > Vmware workstation > esx and again failed on 54%

I can winscp into the esx host but i am unable to upload anything as i am getting permission denied What is strange is when i go to datastore in VC and upload file, on the main VM file it will again stop around 54%

I am unsure what exactly you mean by this:

I tried converting it to Acronis > Vmware workstation > esx and again failed on 54%

I can winscp into the esx host but i am unable to upload anything as i am getting permission denied

Log into IP of ESX host using "root"

I am also not sure what you mean by:

i go to datastore in VC and upload file

Sorry i mean i tried converting an acronis image to esx and that also failed.

using root to try and upload directly to the ESX server gives me an error messsage' access denied' whenever i try to upload, i can however browse the file system fine

Could you please be more specific .... how exactly are you uploading directly to ESX? Are you using a specific application? What is the error?

Also, when converting acronis to esx, what was the failure? Do you have logs for that task?

yes the logs are in the first post, i contacted vmware support and they have been looking into this now for a week and still unsure what it is as there seems to be an odd error that occurs which they have not seen before. i am hoping that the logs uploaded were new if not i can always re-upload the ones i sent vmware.

Basically if i use convertor to move a physical/ virtual/ 3rd party image/ and restore it to an esx server, either it be SAN or local it will fail on the same % always!

What is your SR#? Maybe the TSE working on it has added notes that might shed light on the issue.
