We have two ESX 3.5 servers here, no virtual center. We use esxupdate with an FTP depot to apply all patches. Trying to apply the April patches we started receiving the following error:
ERROR: Descriptor release (ESX350-Update01) doesnt match directory name (/var/spool/esxupdate)
Tech support told me " Apparently we are still experiencing some issues with update 1 web site. I will update you as soon as they resolve the issue."
I am not sure what the website has to do with the error...
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Screenshot attached if you want to see the error and the associated command.
There have been issues to the released patches, which were apparently resolved today by the below thread. If you downloaded the update before today, you may want to re-download and try your install again. Consequently, there have been successful reports of the patches applied via Update Manager.

Hi,
Not sure why they said that since the issue was fixed today.
You will need to download the updated patch zip file since you downloaded on Apr08. (Flush your browser cache first)
The download problems relate to VC so won't apply here. Probably wrong, but have you checked how much free disk space you have on the host console?
Thank you all for the input. I re-downloaded all the patches again this morning, unpacked them, placed them in the depot and the updates ran flawlessly.
