VMotion

Hello,

I'm configuring a few servers with ESX 3.0.2 and running Virtual Center 2. Im a little confused on how many IP addresses i need for VMotion to work. VMotion will be on its own network. My question is, Should every server have its own ip address for Vmotion or do I configure each server with the same ipaddresses for VMotion.

I hope that makes sense.

Thanks, Tim

Each server will need it's own unique IP address that is able to communicate with other servers on the VMotion network. See Chapter 14 on the link below for some information and requirements for setting up VMotion.

When you configure VMotion, you need to configure a vmkernel port, with VMotion enabled.

It's this port which has the IP address - i.e. each host will need 1 VMotion IP address.

Ok Thanks. So what you are saying is that if I have 10 ESX Servers I need 10 seperate IP addresses for VMotion to function. ie 10 VMKernel ports with these seperate addresses. I assume that these will all be placed in one VLan and one port group.
