I have searched this quite a bit. Can someone please help me get the built in iSight in my Intel iMac working with YM? I will be glad to take this to private email. Getting desperate here...

Not enough information here to even begin to help you. Is this a problem related to VMware Fusion? We have no way of really knowing...

So sorry... I assumed that being in this forum the problem being with Fusion was a given. I have a VM of XP Pro SP2 and would like to finally get my built-in iSight in my 20" Intel iMac working with Yahoo Messenger. It works fine with Live Messenger. I went through instructions I found in another forum and have apparently installed a driver for the iSight and is listed under Device Manager under the category of Imaging Devices. However, YM still complains about the Webcam not supporting the required image size and then says there is no webcam. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should have a look at:

iSight whether in Boot Camp or a FusionVirtual Machine requires the Boot camp Drivers form the Leopard DVD to be installed.

You can either install all Boot Camp Drivers via inserting the Leopard DVD or selectively install the iSight Driver although the latter require manually updating the Device from Device Manager after extracting the driver for the AppleiSightInstaller.exe package and direction to extract are provided below.

Directions to extract the iSight Driver from the AppleiSightInstaller.exe file...

On the Leopard DVD, while in Windows, look for AppleiSightInstaller.exe and copy it to its own folder on the hard drive.

Although you cannot execute it by itself however you can use UNRAR to extract the files and then point to that folder when necessary.

At a command prompt: unrar x AppleiSightInstaller.exe

This will extract the files necessary to manually update the device.

You can get a copy of UNRAR from...

GNU utilities for Win32

What version of Yahoo Messenger are you using? Do you know if your setup works in Boot Camp? I've heard reports that YM is restrictive about what image formats it accepts, and it doesn't like the iSight (e.g. rcardona2k's post ). Since the iSight works in LiveMessenger, this further suggests that Fusion has done it's job and that YM is the problem.

You would think so but that is not always the case and a lack of certain information can make a question to ambiguous to answer explicitly and specificaly. Like "working with YM?" even in context that could be a typo for Virtual Machine "VM" or could Yahoo! Messanger however if someone is not familiar with "YM" meaning Yahoo! Messenger then it looks like a typo! Read for a little insight on why in a Technical Support Forum being brief and using acronyms you make up don't always help in getting your questions answered. The "So sorry" was sincere, and what immediately followed was me thinking out loud and also a case where tone in text "chat" is completely lost or misconstrued. I meant no insult.

I am leaning towards etung with this issue. Yahoo Messenger has problems...

No insult was taken! (Nor meant on my part either) Smiley Happy And your assumption is not necessarily off base however if you've read and answered as many questions as some of us have you would know that some people will even ask questions that have nothing to do with VMware Products or related appropriately to their use so sometimes a bit more information may help.
