GUI for Storage Vmotion (svmotion)

Hi, please find a little Windows GUI for svmotion.

Instructions:

Install the VMWARE remote CLI (www.vmware.com/go/remotecli) on a Windows machine to the standard path (program files...)

Save the file vms.pl into the C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware VI Remote CLI\bin directory.

Save the svmotionGUI.exe somewhere on the machine.

Double click it!

Fantastic job! What a very handy utility.

One recommendation would be to add support to append remapped Virtual Center Server TCP/IP ports to the Virtual Center Server DNS name or IP Address. Say for port 81 instead of the default port of 80, or 444 instead of the default 443. In some non-standard configurations this would be most helpful -

Again, great work !

Hello,

Thank you for creating this! Its too bad Vmware has not yet included it in Virtualcenter.

FWIW, I discovered that if you do not follow your instructions exactly, and install the CLI to another directory, you get this error:

AutoIT Error:

Line -1:

Error: Unable to execute the external program.

The directory name is invalid.

Reinstalling it in the default folder fixed it:)

Hi Adam,

Yes, I know this. But did not want to create a path variable. Most people will install it in the default folder anyway.

I am unable to get it to work. Installed and the applet comes up but when I select Get Datastores it just sits on "working" and never comes back. It is currently running on my VC server. Tried it on two servers so far.

If it helps, I wrote a VI 2.5 client plugin that enables SVMotion right from the VI client. You can read more about it on these forums at http://communities.vmware.com/thread/126141 or at its homepage at http://www.lostcreations.com/code/wiki/vmware/viplugins/svmotion.

Hope this helps!

I just released a new version of SVMotion. It is online at VIPlugins.com. The new version includes a client and server installer. The client installer can be installed on any machine with a VI 2.5 client, but the server installer requires a system with VC 2.5 installed on it. If you install the server extension, the SVMotion plugin will be available to all users who connect to that VC server.

Thank you for thinking it is great! I am working on the next version. It should allow for a phased migration such that if you migrate 9 VMs it will only do 3 at a time so it doesn't kill the server. I'm also thinking of changing this to something like Migrate+. It will allow VMotion events in combination with SVMotion. What do you think?
