Virtual Machine Failes to connect to Bridge Network.

Good Morning - I set up my iMac (w/Leopard) with Fusion running XP Home this week. I got the NAT setting for the internet connection on the virtual machine working fine, however I was informed I needed a Bridge connection to use my VPN. When I changed the setting to bridge the internet stopped working in its entirety. I released and refreshed the IP addressed and still not luck. When I switch back to NAT is works fine again.

Is there some type of setting on Leopard that I need to do to actual have a "network" that is being shared, rather than just sharing the internet connection. I am currently using a cable modem as my internet connection and I have made no other setting changes to the XP Virtual Machine or within Leopard.. If setting up a wireless network would work I am not oppososed to trying that.

Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Bridged Network setting only works if you have an External DHCP Server, like one built into a Linksys Router as an example, or you Hard Code a Valid IP Address, Subnet Mask and DNS Server(s) information for the NIC.

How do you connect to the Internet on you Mac? (Service Provider, Service Type, Equipment provided by your Service Provider, etc)

Edit: Added content:

I do not know if your issue is related to the following post however you may want to have a look at:

Please review if you are having bridged wireless network issues

And the possible fix:

It's here! Help us test the fix for wireless networking problems

Edit 2: Based on the response to my question the above suggestions of the first Edit may not applicable. Just hook up your Air Port and if you have problems with the Air Port if using Wireless and Bridged then they may become applicable.

I connect to the internet through Comcast Cable Modem. I used it before with my pc, and when I hooked it up to my new iMac it just went right on with no new settings.

If I hooked up an Apple Airport Extreme Base Station directly to my modem and then use that as a network would that help.

I am really clueless when it comes to networks.

Thanks.

This is the problem as the cable modem typically only supplys one IP Address unless otherwise programed.

Yes, hook it up!

Edit: You should power down/unplug the cable modem before you hook up the Air Port in order to release the MAC Address of the Computer from the cable modem so it can then Bind to the MAC Address of the Air Port.
