VDI Wallpaper

I want to remove wallpaper all together for all our Virtual Machines (which are in their own OU). Does anyone know the best way to do this? The only GPO settings I can find are in User Configuration.

There is a GPO Machine setting for Enforcing the removal of desktop wallpaper but this doesnt seem to work so I assume it only applies to terminal services (or else I'm doing something wrong).

If anyones disabled wallpaper for their VDI in the past I'd be interested to hear how you went about it.

Many thanks

Hi,

The GP setting to control wallpaper over RDP connections is:

Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Terminal Services/Enforce Removal of Remote Desktop Wallpaper.

Hope this helps….

In case anyones interested the only way I could get this to work was to Apply a Local User Policy on the Master template to

1. Enable Active Desktop

2. Enforce a specific Active Desktop Wallpaper (which is a blank bmp).

Although GPO is definitely a viable route, you can also disable the wallpaper with the RDP settings. Depending on what method/device you are using to connect you can configure this at the broker or device level. If you need any more information, let us know.

That doesnt seem to work for me I'm afraid.

I am using Provision Networks VAS.

Their suppport told me that the option to disable Desktop Wallpaper only works with Terminal Servicies and that I should use GPO.

I tried the GPO to Enforce Removal of Desktop Wallpaper but it doesnt seem to work either. The only way I could do this was to Use Active Desktop Wallpaper.

Does "Enforce Removal of Desktop Wallpaper" work for you?

Works for my normal thin clients connecting to terminal servers - don't have a VDI setup yet but it is supposed to be the same as far as I know.

Works fine for me in VDI environments. I set Active desktop to Disable, I set Active Desktop Wallpaper to disable

I set Enforce Removal of Remote Desktop Wallpaper to Enable.

Ah ha. silly me

My build has BGinfo set to run at startup. This seemed to play havoc with the backgrounds (I guess is would)

Removed BGinfo and Enforce Removal of Desktop Wallpaper now works.

many thanks
