ESX 3.0.2 and QLE2462

Installed ESX 3.0.2 on new Dell 6950's and our HBA's are having issue with initial connectivity to EMC DMX2000 Symmetrix system.

Here's the question: Anyone seen the driver that installs with 3.0.2 for the 2462? What gives with the '7.07.04.2vmw' driver? Sounds like the hack that was needed for the read-only filesystem.

'cat /proc/scsi/qla2300/1' produces:

QLogic PCI to Fibre Channel Host Adapter for QLE2462:

Firmware version: 4.00.18, Driver version 7.07.04.2vmw

Entry address = 0x7e3314

Same model installation with 3.0.1 + Patches produces:

QLogic PCI to Fibre Channel Host Adapter for QLE2462:

Firmware version: 4.00.18, Driver version 7.07.04

Entry address = 0x7d4314

I'm reading the release notes and known issues but can't find any reference to the QLogic driver. Anyone having a similar issue?

QLE2462 Look here http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_io_guide.pdf.

Table 13. QLogic Storage IO Devices - Fibre Channel HBA

For all 3.x versions the following is listed

qla2x00_707 7.07.04

Have you verified the firmware on the card is the latest supported by EMC & your HW vendor?

We need to set the connection mode to point to point only for our EVA.

Have you walked thru the san config guide? http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vi3_301_201_san_cfg.pdf

Jae,

I re-read the documents you linked to see if I missed anything.

I have a large farm already (26 hosts) using the same storage (DMX2) and some of those hosts are exactly the same in the specifications; (Dell 6950). The 3.0.1 systems all are able to be 'seen' by our SAN administrators but the 3.0.2 systems are labeled as "unknown" I think it is a driver issue. Problem is the documentation is not up to date for the 3.0.2 installation. I now believe that there is a newer version of the qla2x00_707 drivers installing with 3.0.2 than is indicated on the vi3_io_guide.

I will open a support ticket and see where it leads. I believe I may be hitting a version delta between the VMWare and EMC products.

Natiboy,

Yeah man having the same problem. I have Firmware 1.24 on my QLE2462's in 4 2900's. My other boxes have no issues. But these PE2900's cannot see the LUN's I also think that it is an issue with drivers. I have a Sev 1 case open with platinum support and I hope to get something nailed out soon.

I will post back if I get an answer.

Thanks. L8R.

Any updates on this? I just got one of these cards in a Dell 2950 and I cannot get my EMC CX300 to see the machine. All three status lights are flashing between the two channel connections.

This is over a year old... did anyone find a solution? I have a PE 2950 with a QLE2462. Just upgraded from 3.0.1 to 3.5 u2 and now the HBA isn't working. Same issue, all three lights blink left and right between the two ports.

Thanks!

Hello,

Verify that Firmware for the QLE is up to date, as well as the BIOS for the Dell. I would also open up the box and reseat the cards and look for obvious issues.
