Ubuntu 6.10 on VMWS 6.0.0 - VMWare tools problems

Hi all,

Been doing some searching on VMware tools and Ubuntu but don't see my problem. I have the tools installed, and the output of the configuration is confusing, i.e. I see errors but also success in the same entry! So...I have no idea if it is installed correctly or not. I suspect it is not, as VMware still says "Your version of VMware tools is out of date" and also I cannot go above 800x600 in X. Here is the output from the last time I tried to configure VMWare tools:

X Window System Version 7.1.1

Release Date: 12 May 2006

X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 7.1.1

Build Operating System: Linux 2.6.15.7 x86_64

to make sure that you have the latest version.

X is running fine with the new config file.

FreeFontPath: FPE "/usr/share/fonts/X11/misc" refcount is 2, should be 1; fixing.

VMware Tools is installed, but it has not been

(correctly) configured for the running kernel.

To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command:

/usr/bin/vmware-config-tools.pl.

Unable to start services for VMware Tools

Execution aborted.
