Adding physical hard drive

Hi,

I have an XP instance which is currently 20Gb in size. Installed in the instance is a 10GB MaxDB database. I would presume that I can get better performance if I was to install the MaxDb database onto a physical drive partition.

Is it possible to re-partition an area of my hard drive (I already have boot camp installed for something else) and then get Fusion to mount this physical partition so that Windows sees it as another hard drive.

I did try adding a second hard disk in the fusion settings for the VM but it insisted that I gave it a size and seemed to want to create another vmk file to hold the drive contents.

Cheers

Ed.

The tool you're looking for is vmware-rawcreator or something like that.

Its a command line tool that makes a VMDK file that maps to a physical drive (similar to how Fusion handles the Bootcamp partition). It'll unmount the drive in OSX and mount it in your VM.
