Swap command (apple) / ctrl keys in VM?

Is there some way that I can swap the command and control keys in my Windows VMs automatically? I would like the Command (Apple) key to be the control key instead of the Windows key.

The reason is this... I've become accustomed to using OS X and am in the habit of hitting the command (Apple) key instead of the control key while in a VM running Windows. It's not a huge thing since hitting Windows+ within Windows is Mostly Harmless™.

But especially when I'm jumping back and forth between OSes, however, it really gets annoying.

thx

Try Unity! It does this for you.

OK... I did try Unity, but I have lots[/b] of little windows all over the place, and a lot of them appear under the dock, etc. It doesn't seem to respect the cut-down desktop space. It's just gross for the dev work I'm doing on Windows. I spent time hunting for things, which interfered with getting work done.

If I were just running, say, Word, Unity would be fabulous. Don't think I'm knocking the tool. IMHO it's just the wrong tool for the job in my general case.

If the key swapping happens in Unity, is there some way the swapping can be enabled in a single window?

Sorry, there isn't a feature to do this in single window or full screen mode currently.

OK. Duly noted.

If there's a wish list somewhere, it'd be a handy feature.

Thanks! Smiley Happy

I usually switch between Full Screen and Unity, I even use Single Window sometimes, and I want my Command and Control keys swapped all the time, regardless of the view mode. Please add this option.

I use a freeware application called Key Tweak that runs in the Windows guest VM

http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/

It allows you to map any key to any other key. It adds a mapping to the registry, which Windows reads at startup. Very straightforward.

I use it in XP and XP 64bit to swap the Windows and Alt keys to give me a more PC-like setup when I'm working in the VM. It should work for your goal of a more Mac-like setup as well.

The problem is that Fusion sometimes swaps the keys and sometimes not. In Unity it does, otherwise not. And I usually switch between Full Screen and Unity (depending of the availability of an external screen and my current tasks). So if I also swap the keys in Windows they will be reversed in Unity. It is very frustrating.

I hope VMWare will provide an option to solve this mess.

Any updates on if/when we might see command/control swapping offered across the board? I agree that having to mentally switch gears as we switch between Mac and Win is a pain in the a**.

I gave up and am using Key Tweak.

It's a bit of a PITA to set up, but it works.

(I never use Unity, BTW.)
