Hi,
Recently I installed ESX standard 3.01, I forgot to create a VMFS partition. What is the easiest way to modify the partitions, note I am not a Linux guy. Can I just rerun setup? I have already applied all the patches.
Thanks,
Greg
I had a similar issue, I created a /tmp fs which was too small. I ultimately ended un reinstalling ESX. Have you tried going to Configuration, Storage, Add, Disk/LUN, next, select storage controller, next, check use free space, next, you get the picture.
I get an error but it may be different for you.
PS I've created a patching method too which I can send you should you need. It parses a file which has a listing of patches (in order), it then untar's the .tgz files and runs the update for each. I think there are similar ones on this forum (watch out for ESX-6431040 ,which as you know is a bundle )
Hello,
If you did not leave yourself enough room during the installation to create a new partition for your VMFS, then the best solution is to reinstall. You could use parted/partition magic to manipulate your partitions, BUT you may loose data and they do not manipulated the filesystem sitting on the partition. You need to first resize that then change the partition. Very dangerous stuff unless you know exactly what you are doing with Linux based filesystems.
When I do this, even though I know the other ways, I will reinstall to fix the problem. It is a real hassle to fix using tools that are not part of ESX.
Best regards,
Edward
