Hello together,
I've got a name notation in my company. for example Server-MS-01 MS is for Member Server
Now i plan to upgrade this server to a DC - DomainController
so the Server name would be Server-DC-01.
Are there any problems with VirtualCenter, Consolidated Backup, VmWare Converter and the SQL2005 Server if i rename this server?
What should i have to do after the renaming?
regards
If your changing the name at the guest level, none of the above care.
If your changing the friendly name, this change will not cause any issues.
If however you wish to start changing the vmdk names and associated files, you'll need to be a little more careful as these tools will look at the vmx and vmdk files.
Okay, I was not detailled enough.
The Server wich I want to rename is my Virtual Center PC. This is a physical mashine. I want to change the computer name.
On this mashine is:
SQL Server 2005
Veritas Backup Exec 11.d
Consolidated Backup
VMWare Converter
And Virtual Infrastrukture Client
Hello,
Depending on where you change the UID/OID of the server, you may have to reconnect all your hosts to VC.
I am not sure I would put VC on a DC. As a member server yes, but not as a DC.
Best regards,
Edward

for info, renaming a SQL server is not good. You will need to check the following
SELECT @@SERVERNAME, SERVERPROPERTY('ServerName')
they should both return the computer name, if not (you have renamed your SQL server) then set them so they are the same
