Is the VM Player window small by default?

Greetings to all,

Does anybody know if the VM Player window can be maximized? When I switch to full screen the VM takes up about a half of the available area in the center, while the rest remains black. Is there a way to make this truly full screen?

Thanks a lot in advance!

Hi Martin,

The VMware Tools are not something you can download. The VMware Tools are included with VMware Workstation, VMware Server..etc just the products that allow you to create virtual machines.

Where did you get your Debian VM?

What is the screen resolution set to in the Debian VM?

Yes, you should be able to maximize the window

What version of VMware Player?

What is the host OS?

What is the guest OS?

Does this virtual machine have the VMware Tools installed?

Thanks again for your help, Kevin. My host OS is Windows XP, SP 1, while my guest OS is Debian.

As far as VMware Tools, I didn't (don't) have any idea... I just looked up http://www.vmware.com/download/ via Google but don't what I should download.

Many thanks again,

Martin

Sorry to be asking what turned out to be a non-VM question. The truth of the matter is I'm trying to learn Linux (I know Debian is not the gentlest choice, but...) so I'm not even sure what my screen resolution is! I tried looking that up too before replying.

I downloaded the minimal configuration from http://www.thoughtpolice.co.uk/vmware/, but seriously don't worry about it. I'll eventually learn about Linux configuration!

Cheers for the New Year!

I miss this feature too. VMware player, server, console view, workstation, all of them map pixels in 1:1 relation between virtaul display and host screen. When you have MS-DOS screen, it is 80x25 characters, it is about 640x400. And when it is displayed at high resolution screen like 1024x600, MS-DOS widows of virtual machine could be very small; and there is no way to change size of VMware screen. I think, the easiest way will be to invent zoom view, 1x, 2x, 3x, 4x; it could be fast to map every pixel from virtual PC to 1, 4, 9, 16 pixels at real screen. More advanced solution will allow to resize VMware screen to any size but it needs interpolations, etc, a lot of computation power and the result could be confusing.
