Has anyone been able to get a windows 2003 64-bit server guest to sucessfully run on an HP-Compaq DL380 G4 VI3 server host?
I opened a case now at vmware and they said to run
the vmware cpu compat tool (also a bootable cd). Last
time it said 64bit longcode supported, 64 bit guest
not supported. Sounds contradictionairy or not ?
It's not contradictory. Long-mode only requires EM64T. 64-bit guests on Intel hardware require both EM64T and VT. VT is required because Intel does not provide segment truncation in 64-bit mode. That means that without VT there is no way to protect the virtual machine monitor from the guest.
I think you are going to find that your BIOS does not enable VT, or that it does not enable VT for each core.
Hi Mattson,
I run the vt.iso and I see the following :
CPU 0 This core does not support VT
CPU 1 This core does not support VT
I have enabled VT in the BIOS of the machine ... ? What does this mean ? That the option is there in the BIOS but is of no use, since my procs do not support it ? Or that I did not power cycle enough (should have unplugged for a little longer then 30 seconds).
And if these procs do not support VT, I have to buy others. Do you know what procs for sure will work in my machine ?
Any ideas ?

It means that these processors do not support VT at all, no matter what options you set in the BIOS.

I don't know what processors would work in your system. I would suggest that you contact your HP representative. I'm sorry that I can't be of more help.
Hey guys,
I want to be able to check through the command line if VT is enabled in the BIOS for scripting purposes. I know we can check if VT is supported by the chip using the following:
http://www.howtogeek.com/howto.....pports-vt/
But is there any way to check if its enabled in the BIOS? Perhaps there is a small test to run that uses VT that can fail if its not enabled in the BIOS?
Is this DL380 G4 incompatibility with the CPU only or the CPU and Mainboard? I'm trying to determine if purchasing new Processors only for my G4's will get me up to spec here?
