Renaming server running VirtualCenter 2

Ou server currently running VC 2 will have to be renamed following the application of a new naming standard. How will VC 2 react to this name change? TIA.

In you're case, There's no worry about the database connection, this is not changing. The only thing is that you may have to disconnect and reconnect the hosts in Virtual Center. Alos, you may have to make sure that the License Server setting is updated for each host.

I'm not sure how VC2 would react, in the worst case, you may have to remove and re-add all of your hosts to VC.

One thing that you will have to do is make sure that the SQL Server (if you are using SQL) and the ODBC connections are reconfigured for the name change.

If that machine is running a MSSql server i HIGHLY recomend you to NOT change the name. If you really need to do that, the best solution is:

\- Backup your db somewhere (or just DETACH db)

\- Remove MSSQL

\- Change machine name

\- Reinstall MSSql

\- Reimport DB (or just ATTACH db)

SQL Reacts very badly to machine name change, the name is used internally for a lot of reference so it's a lot better to reinstall the whole db.

You don't need to go through that much. There are a couple of stored procedures that you need to run after you rename the Window Server so that SQL can update its internal tables and registry settings. See this link:

I should've mentionned that we are using Oracle 9i as the host for the VC database and this Oracle 9i DB isn't located on the server running VC. This being said can I assume the name change shouldn't cause any problem in my specific case? Thanks again.
