Fusion Beta - Uanble to install Vista because cursor is dead

I get to the point of the Install Windows dialog comes up, but the cursor isn't responding to my Mac mouse, so I can't proceed thru the install. Any ideas?

I also can't run an XP Pro VM - mouse cursor freezes when VM comes up to login screen. I'll submit a log and system profile via the link in this thread.

Hi Guys,

Looks like the problem some are having is the same as I have just encountered.

USB Overdrive and Fusion don't mix. I just turned off USB Overdrive so mouse support is back with the standard OS X drivers and all is well again.

I hope this is to be resolved soon in an update as this is a bug.

Cheers

I have same problem without USB Overdrive. I use MX Revolution with MacBook. VMware Fusion suddenly lost focus of cursor, altough I could install WinXP Pro on VM. Here' the log when I clicked inside the VM window.

I think I saw a similar issue and I also have USB OD installed. No time to test at present but I will...

thanks!

USB Overdrive was the problem for me, too. Turning it off fixed it, but I hope that this bug is addressed soon. I use my Kensington Orbit Trackball as a left-handed mouse. For some reason, specifying the right button as the primary button in Apple's Keyboard and Mouse preference pane does not always work properly, so I have to use USB Overdrive instead.

Is your mouse perfectly centered in the display (the initial position)? Does your keyboard work? If it does you can start the login process by using Virtual Machine > Send Ctrl-Alt-Del. Then you should be able to tab around the fields and buttons and get to the desktop. First thing you should do is install/upgrade the VMware Tools (Virtual Machine > Install VMware Tools).

If that doesn't fix anything you can use Cmd (open-apple) to bring up the Windows start menu and navigate to Start > Run... > Type in "devmgmt.msc". This will bring up the Device Manager where you use the arrow keys to get down to "mice and other pointing devices" and you can use right arrow to expand it. You could try deleting the mouse and rebooting (or rescan hardware) and maybe this will resolve the problem.

Yow, thanks.

Used your method to get vmware up. Deleting the (parallels - sigh) mouse did not work, but tabbing/etc to install vmware tools did work. Now my parallels machine (copied using vmware converter) is all working in vmware.

Again, thanks.

Wow! it worked. Sometimes I think these long (sometimes complex) instructions fall on deaf ears. Smiley Happy

For some reason, converted/migrated VMs tend to have problems with the mouse. Welcome to Fusion with mouse flair.

So, I got a Wacom Intuos 3 PTZ-930 tablet and plugged it into my Mac Pro here. I didn't install any drivers.

I booted up a Windows XP VM with tools, and a Windows 3.1 VM without tools, and had no problem controlling the mouse in either.

Does anyone with a Wacom tablet have steps to reproduce this issue? I can't reproduce it in-house.

Nothing special to reproduce. Using a Wacom Intuos 2 on a 2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon running OS 10.4.8. The VM machine is running Windows Vista Ultimate. Nether the pen or the mouse is recognized

Do you also have USB Overdrive or Logitech mouse or keyboard drivers installed?

Are there any other USB devices connected to the system?

OK. I was able to partially reproduce this, after installing Wacom's Intuos 3 driver 6.00-3. For VMs without Tools installed, I was unable to move the mouse cursor with the Wacom tablet.

If I open Activity Monitor from /Applications/Utilities, select the TabletDriver process, and click the Quit Process button, I'm then able to move the mouse cursor with the Wacom tablet.

Normal mice were unaffected for me, however, with or without the Wacom driver installed. I assume you have the Wacom driver installed; what version are you currently using? What kind of mouse do you use?

In either case, I'm developing a fix for the issue now that solves the problem with USB Overdrive, Wacom tablets, and (hopefully) Logitech keyboards and mice.

I'm using the 4.96-3 driver along with the tablet mouse. i hooked up a mighty mouse to a mac keyboard thinking that would work, but it wasn't until I unplugged the tablet that the mouse and keyboard were active in the vm. I also have a eyo-one monitor calibrator plugged in to the tower, but that didn't seem to matter.

Ah, when you say "the tablet mouse", you mean Wacom's device that looks like a mouse, but sits on the tablet?

Did you try suspending/resuming the VM after you plugged in the mighty mouse? (There's a separate issue, already fixed internally, that caused issues with plugging in mice while a VM was up and running).

Yep.

Yeah, I quit out of the app altogether and created a new vm with the mighty mouse, keyboard and tablet in place and none of the input devices worked until I unplugged the tablet. I can try with the new driver tomorrow and see if that makes a difference with the mighty mouse working.

I tried to reproduce ths issue with version 4.96-3 of Wacom's driver, and had the same symptoms: I couldn't control the mouse in a VM without Tools with the tablet pen, but Apple's Mighty Mouse and my Cirque EasyCat touchpad worked fine.

Anyway, I have a fix ready that we'll test internally. It should (knock on plastic) resolve the issue for Wacom, Logitech, and USB Overdrive users.

Thanks for your patience!

Works for me. Any idea when the next beta release will be?

Our next beta hasn't been announced yet.

In the meantime, you can simply uninstall the Wacom drivers (they're not actually needed to use the tablet) to remove the conflict with Fusion.

Just to follow up, I installed Beta 2 and was able to get Vista installed with my tablet attached.
