Native (Internal) Apps failing to install (Windows) -> "Failed to sanitize cache"

Hi,

We're trying to deploy several internal apps (MSI based installers) but they fail instantly - looking at the registry key under "Queue" (HKLM\Software\AirWatchMDM\AppDeploymentAgent\S-1-5-18):

LastErrorHRESULT = Failed to sanitize the cache directory

I've tried deleting the cache directory altogether (%programdata%\AirWatchMDM\AppDeploymentCache) - the directory gets recreated and the directory with the app's uniwue code gets created but it remains empty.

Searching Google and this forum comes up with nothing - the most we have is the "Cheat Sheet" that confirms the error code, but no remedy for the issue.

Does anyone have any tips for this issue?

Thanks,

Shane

Unfortunately you get that a lot with this product, you may need to log a support ticket for this one but we will try our best to help.

What does the full log say (LastDeploymentLog)? Does it even attempt to download the file? Have you ever been able to deploy an application? Does a ZIP or EXE work?

Thanks for the response Aaron,

Unfortunately, we are currently using a trial of the product until the cycle of K-12 licensing begins at the end of November. Until then, we don't have access to tech support but need to have it production ready ASAP Smiley Sad

  • What does the full log say (LastDeploymentLog)? Where is the "LastDeploymentLog"? We've 'collected logs' but cannot see that log in the zip file.
  • Does it even attempt to download the file? It is hard to say where it bombs out - the file doesn't download, we simply have an empty folder in the Cache folder
  • Have you ever been able to deploy an application? This is a new configuring of WS One, so no. "App Store" based apps deploy fine (Windows Store, Mac Store). We have other apps setup to deploy the exact same way which work (Enterprise App Respository), but there are also other apps (Custom App) that have the same problem.
  • Does a ZIP or EXE work? Haven't tried pushing ZIP or EXE yet - we will give this a test. The problems we are having are MSI files. Interestingly, we have a few of the "Enterprise App Repository" apps added and they install fine - they are MSI files.

Thanks,

Shane

The 'LastDeploymentLog' should be in the registry where you found the 'LastErrorHRESULT'. That should tell you when its erroring and if its trying to download anything.

We use exclusively the PowerShell App Deploy Toolkit for all installations, even if its an MSI. We do this for uniformity so that every package is the same as it makes it easier for our level 1/2 support to troubleshoot things before they get escalated to us. These get zipped up and ingested as a ZIP. We have had a few issues but we had more issues with straight MSIs than we do with the ZIPs.
