Strongly recommend you to use: VMware Product Interoperability Matrices

This link to your question: VMware Product Interoperability Matrices

Edit= btw, you should start thinking in upgrading those 5.5 clusters. Support for that version ended like 2 years ago.

Hmmm.... why is there a gap between 5.1 and 6.0? Where is 5.5 in the matrix.

When vRO only see vCenter... and vCenter can managed ESXi Hosts which are up to 2 major versions behind you should use any vRO version between 8.11 <-> 6.6.1 as long as all vCenters are 6.5.  So you need to upgrade your 5.5 vCenter to 6.0/6.5 and the Hosts can stay on 5.5.

Btw. you should add ESXi to the matrix as 2nd. product.
