How to traverse the host's physical adapter from a VM while using NAT?

Hi

I’ve been trying to get my VMs to connect to the internet but there only seems to be communication between the VM, virtual NAT adapter(VMnet8) and the hosts physical adapter.

The version I am using is Workstation Player 15.5.6 build-16341506 which has several Linux VMs, the main one being OpenSUSE 15.2 and the others being Fedora 32 and Ubuntu 20.04. The host OS is Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

All the VMs have a virtual network adapter added and set to NAT. The virtual adapter VMnet8 is enabled, VMnet1 is disabled and the hosts physical LAN adapter is enabled.

After setting the hosts Physical LAN adapter to share it's connection by turning on "Allow other network users to connect through this computers Internet connection" it changed the IP address of the VMnet8, however it has not allowed connecting to or pinging WAN addresses.

The guest OS seem to pick up an IP address and default gateway from the NAT’s original IP range before it was changed by the physical LAN adapter. The VMware services listed below seem to be enabled and running:

VMware Authorization Service

VMware DHCP Service

VMware NAT Service

VMware USB Arbitration Service

Is there a windows firewall setting that needs to be changed, a DNS setting required on the guest OS or is there something else that needs doing to traverse the host's physical adapter?
