Logon task for bginfo

I'm trying to get a logon task to work that will push out a custom background using BGinfo, but for some reason I can't get it to work. I have tried running the command directly, as a VBscript, but no luck. The bginfo.exe and .bgi file (contains the configuration) are both applied as files in the User Environment configuration. I am able to get this to work if I create a triggered task for reconnect using the exact same command.

Has anyone else had any issues with the logon task configuration? Is there log files I can look at? Any help would be appreciated...thanks!

BDizzel1982 - absolutely!  Here is the config file that I created and use on all my VMs.  I tend to also use this on physical machines and simply remove any VM related lines.  Please let me know what you think and share your results of how you're using/applying this in your environment.

Hey Lopezal1 thanks for providing your config. We actually decided as a group to use the taskbar switch command rather then the pop up as a result we had to strip our config down to just the essential info we need since the WMI Filters would cause bginfo to pop up on long rather then going to the taskbar like we wanted. I'm going to keep your template for reference though in case management changes there mind and wants it on the screen right away again Smiley Happy

Hello Pim_van_de_Vis,

I've used your Word document in Logon task for bginfo but this doesn't seem to work with Horizon 7.2 and UEM 9.2.0.

The TranscodedWallpaper file in UEM profile still shows the BGinfo information even though LocalAppData\Temp\BGinfo.bmp only shows the wallpaper.

When I logon to a desktop I momentarily see the users wallpaper with the old BGinfo information and then I get a black wallpaper showing the new BGinfo information.

Do you know how to solve this?

Thanks in advance.

Did you configure the logoff taks to run 'Before' profile archive import?

If so, can you provide some more info? What version of Windows are you using? Did it work with another version of Horizon or UEM? Do you run UEM with a GPO or in NoAD mode?

Hello Pim_van_de_Vis,

I am trying to get BGInfo working with UEM on my Windows 10 Horizon desktops and am having a little difficulty.  I am reading your UEM and Sysinternals BGInfo.docx document and have Step 1 completed but am not sure how to complete Step 2 in UEM.

Step 1: Capture the BGinfo wallpaper - added the two lines to the UEM Wallpaper config file

.

[IncludeFiles]

<LocalAppData>\Temp\BGInfo.bmp

Step 2: Start BGinfo at logon to add the info to the wallpaper - not sure how to do this....here is what is in the document:

To
accomplish this, create a shortcut in the ‘Start Menu – Startup’ folder to call
BGinfo. This can be accomplished very simply with UEM

Step 3: Undo the BGinfo at logoff to prevent ‘ghosting’ of old information.

Would you be able to help guide me to getting this setup?

Thank you.

I'm not sure how I can help, because the Word document even has screenshots on how to configure step 2 and 3 (on page 2 of the Word document).

What is the exact problem you are facing?

So I realize this may be a dumb question but I am drawing a blank on how I get to the screen that you show in the Step 2 screenshot... 😞  Where is that located in UEM?

In other words, how to I do this: create a shortcut in the ‘Start Menu – Startup’ folder to call BGinfo. This can be accomplished very simply with UEM

@Pim_van_de_Vis

So when I login to my windows 10 desktop, all I get is a black screen, BGInfo does not show up at all .

I am attempting to follow the document that was posted in this conversation and I have steps 1 and 2 completed.  I did not setup step 3 yet but I do not believe that is causing my issues.

Do we need to create a GPO to run BGInfo?

In the DEM management console select the 'User Enviroment' tab

Select 'Shortcuts' in the left pane

Click 'Create'

Fill in the fields exactly as the screenshot.

Make sure to type 'Startup' in the 'Programs folder' field, this will ensure BG info gets started at logon automatically.

And make sure the BGinfo.exe is copied to the right Program Files location on the machines where your users logon.

Hi Pim good morning,

Is this Bginfo setup applicable to Windows 11 and WS 2022?

For now, I can't get it working. I does not create the shortcut.

Thank you.

Hi Pim,

I know this is kind of old but I am having the exact same issue as this person had. I am using Windows 10 22H2 with DEM 2203 and a GPO. When I run the logoff task command from the cli as a test user logged into the VDI desktop it clears the bginfo stuff from the background just fine but for some reason it doesn't seem to work when DEM actually runs it as a logoff task. Its not a major issue because the stale data is only there for a few seconds on the next login but I would love to get it working.

Any help would be appreciated...
