Is it possible to deploy internal Android application from a local .apk to Work Profile device?

Similar to Application Configurations not pushed for internal hosted app to Work Managed Device

For iOS, we are able to easily deploy internal apps by uploading the local .ipa

For Android, we have had issues deploying internal .apks. Currently, to deploy to a Work Profile Device, we have to upload to the managed Google Play Console and add to the app catalog as a Public app. Am I missing something? Here is what I've tried:

I deployed an internal app to Android using both methods described here

  • Google Play private app added and deployed as a public app to a Work Profile Device or Work Managed Device. In both cases the application is pushed to device
  • Hosted the application .apk as a local file and deployed as an internal app to a Work Profile Device. In this case the application is never pushed to device or able to be downloaded from catalog
  • Hosted the application .apk as a local file and deployed as an internal app to a Work Managed Device (enrolled using Android Legacy). In this case the application is pushed to device

Ideally we'd be able to upload .apk files and push to Work Profile Devices without having to push releases through the Google Play Console.

Thanks!

You can't use option 2, because that is a legacy feature and is not supported in any Android Enterprise configuration.  If your devices support products, however, you can push apps from within the console that way, though.
