unprotecting the VM from SRM and adding the VM to protection group

Hi All,

We have a requirement for migrating the VM and host from old vCenter which is un unsupported version currently to newer vCenter 6.7. It's taking the manual effort for removing the VM's from the protection group and after migrating the VM and Host to the new vcenter, again we need to add the VM's to the same protection group. Just want to know from expert, if its possible to automate these tasks from power cli ? Kindly help.

Note :- We have a specific lists of VM's in the protection group and need to remove the VM's from the protection group and add the vm back to the protection group in new vCenter. Protection group name will remain same. SRM version 8.1

Thanks

V

Why don't you use the SRM Import/Export Tool?

You export the SRM setup, then move the ESXi nodes and VMs to the new vCenter and the import the SRM configuration.

Thank you LucD. Just i checked that the link shared by you. We have SRM 8.1 version, hence this feature will work on 8.3.

LucD,

I did check using the tool and it only imports the DR plan, folder mapping etc but no protection group.

Thanks

I don't know the tool, but the doc seems to say it does handle protection groups.

"If you plan to migrate Site Recovery Manager to a different host, you can use the tool to export inventory mappings, recovery plans, protection groups, and the related objects into an XML file. You can then import the configuration data from the previously exported file."

Perhaps you might get a better reply in the SRM community.

Shall I move the thread?

Hi

Yes, you can use the export tool provided by SRM 8.1 and import it to a newly built SRM installation. Following document contains information about what type of export is supported and the information that is exported when using this tool.

Exporting and Importing Site Recovery Manager Configuration Data

I hope that helps
