Not able to login to vCloud director 10.1.1 IP via SSH using putty client

Hello,

We have installed vCloud Director 10.1.1 TPA licence. After successful installation and IP assignment the server is accessible from any other server and we are able to login via root user.

But when we try to login directly via a putty client then we are getting access denied error.

It is taking us to the login prompt but simply not accepting the password. I confirm the password meet the vCloud password requirement (min 8 char, 1 or more Uppercase, lowercase, special char, number).

It would be helpful if anyone can point out what we are doing wrong here. Any help is highly appreciated.

BR,

Enabled SSH?

Enable or Disable SSH Access to the vCloud Director Appliance

Thanks for your reply.

The problem is that we are not able to login to root which is the first step.

We are installing vCloud Director not the vCloud Director Appliance. we are following Install vCloud Director on Linux

we checked and there is no enable_root_login script in /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/bin/

nonetheless tried this once as well from vCloud Director Appliance.

Procedure

  1. Log in directly or SSH to the vCloud Director appliance console as root.
  2. Run the script for enabling or disabling the SSH root access.
    • To enable the SSH root access, run the /opt/vmware/appliance/bin/enable_root_login.sh script.
    • To disable the SSH root access, run the /opt/vmware/appliance/bin/disable_root_login.sh script.

So this statement from your colleague who created the thread is confusing:

"we are able to login via root user"

You might want to ask them to edit the post so that others looking at this thread understand the situation correctly.

I'm also confused - the third screenshot clearly shows the appliance is being used (I see the VAMI blue screen interface).

The script just changes the /etc/ssh/sshd_config file and appends the "PermitRootLogin" configuration while restarting the service.

I can directly see this in my VCD cell appliance config.

If you are using a Linux installation, I would follow the process set-forth within that distro for enabling remote root login.

Thanks. it was indeed an installation issue. we now used linux installation and it is done.

Thanks for your help.

but now we are facing another issue. which I just posted on another thread.

We have successfully installed and configured the vSphere and vCenter and resources are visible in the vCenter.

All other installations and configurations are also done successfully (PostgreSQL, NTP, NFS, NSX etc..).

We then installed vCloud director and vCenter is added. After successful vCloud installation and addition of vCenter in the vCloud, resource pool is not showing in provider VCDS.

We  are creating a vCloud 10.1.1 set up.

Are we are something/doing something wrong?.
