How much ram for best performances

Hi there,

I've just bought a new computer Dell Inspiron where I can install as much ram as I want.

I have 8 Gb so far and I was wondering what would be the right amount of ram to have the best performance.

I want to use ubuntu, mainly to do some programming with Visual Studio.

Would an extra 8 Gb be enough or should I go to a total of 24 Gb or 32 Gb to run it confortably ?

Thanks for your help.

Hi,

Your question is not very precise. Can you explain better.

What operating system does it have?

What virtualization product will you install to virtualize Ubuntu?

How many virtual machines do you intend to create?

in any case, from experience I recommend you not less than 16 Gb.

Hi,

I'm on Windows 10, I want to virtualize Ubuntu 20 with VM Workstation 15 player. Only 1 machine.

Probably best to experiment around. The Virtual Machine's settings will tell you the reccomended amount of virtual memory.
