Authenticated email to O365

Has anyone successfully configured vcenter 6.7 appliance (I have update 3g) to send email to office 365? I've changed the relay server to smtp.office365.com, the mail sender to the from email address i'm using. Then under advanced settings i'm changing mail.smtp.port to 587, mail.smtp.username to the same account I used for mail sender, and mail.smtp.password to that account password.

Considerations:

anonymous relay to internal smtp server works fine. Trying to get away from it.

This username/password works. I'm using it successfully for other mail relays.

vcenter can ping smtp.office365.com and telnet to 587.

I know for this type of relay the from address has to match the authenticating user. Which is why I assumed they have the mail sender box

I've seen a lot of articles about hows its not supported on earlier versions but accounding to this it is supported after vCenter 6.7 U1 and 6.5 U2d.

Last I checked SMTP authentication will be made available in one of the upcoming release of vSphere 6.7. Log a SR with GSS to get more details about this.

At this time SMTP Authentication is still not supported.

You posted the same article as i did.  It says is still not supported for the prior versions but now is in the new versions.

StartTLS support was added by default in:

Prior to vCenter 6.7 U1 and 6.5 U2d these features are not available in the vCenter Server and vCenter Server Appliance. At this time SMTP Authentication is still not supported.

Since I'm not using anything prior to 6.7 u1 it is supported.

Right. STARTTLS with TLS 1.2 is available from 6.7 U1. AFAIK, Currently SMTP Authentication is still not supported on any version of vcenter.

Log a SR with GSS if you need confirmation on this.

Hi,

I have set up my object vCenter at the time of version 7.0U1 (now I'm on version 7.0U3H) to send me alarm messages through the "SMTP AUTH" mode to my Tenant M365 and I haven't encountered any noteworthy issues so far. That said, I would advise you to consult the official documentation.

Regards,
Ferdinando
