HP MSA 2050 disk configuration for SSD/SAS combination

Hello

I'm soon to be setting up a MSA 2050 with the "Tiering" software add on, which allows hot data to migrate to the SSD storage and cold data migrate to the slower SAS drives.  This sounds pretty good, and I can see how it would work very well for file servers, but I wonder if it will help or hinder when the storage is used only to store virtual machines.

The planned disk arrangement will be:

Performance pool

2 x 960G SSD R1

4 x 2.4T SAS 10K R10

Archive pool

2 x 960G SSD R1

6 x 2.4T SAS 10K R6

If anyone has used an MSA with the tiering enabled, how did you find the performance with your VM's, and was there was a particular disk configuration that worked best for you?

Cheers

Gordon
