VLAN connectivity between vSwitch and physical switch?

just want to clarify my doubts about the ESXi virtual switch(VSS/VDS).

I'm planning to setup lab environment with ESXi 7 and the physical switch(which the ESXi is connecting to) ports' setting are now VLAN trunk mode.

if each kernel network/VM network is set to specific VLAN ID respectively(say VLAN ID 99 for vMotion) then the network should still working???(assume that other configurations are correct.)

does the VSS/VDS work the same way as physical switch?

sorry for such dumb question.:smileyconfused:

This depends on your switch configuration, so who can say?

Yes, in certain ways, no in others. If you need two VLANs to talk to each other, that traffic has to be routed. ESXi does not perform that function.
